The purpose of Fitzgerald naming all his party guests at the start of chapter 4 was to show the range of people who attended Gatsbys famous parties who had little to none interest about, they were just here for the party. He names many people from many different places coming for the party such as Beluga the tobacco importer, Chester Beckers from Yale and Mr. P. Jewett, once head of the American Legion. I feel like Fitzgerald is trying to show us that Gatsby is trying to make him seem like he is a very caring person as he remembers a lot about his guests yet his guests don’t really care about him making gabby seem like the better person.
